Benefits Specialist - Remote [United States]


 

The Benefits Specialist communicates and delivers Harbor Freight Tools’ benefits plans, providing exemplary service to associates at all levels of the organization; evaluates and works with internal partners to continuously improve processes and technology; and assists in the day-to-day management of third party administrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and administers corporate benefit plans and programs ensuring compliance with both plan and regulatory requirements
  • Advises employees on eligibility, coverage, and other benefit matters
  • Manages the annual open enrollment project and process including project planning, collaboration with vendors, communications and meetings, system updates and testing, associate enrollment, post-enrollment audits, etc.
  • Reconciles and pays vendor invoices, maintains vendor payment and membership reports and resolves any discrepancies
  • Reviews and may decide on appeals and escalated eligibility/enrollment issues
  • Serves as primary day-to-day contact for third party administrators
  • Audits vendors and vendor systems to ensure compliance with plan structure and company policy and resolves discrepancies
  • Troubleshoots issues and resolves problems related to the plans, eligibility, enrollment, systems etc.
  • Develops, updates, reviews, and distributes print and electronic benefits communications
  • Facilitates open enrollment meetings and new employee benefits orientation meetings
  • Develops and analyzes reports as needed
  • Works with Total Rewards leadership to develop wellness and wellbeing strategic plan and works with the Culture & Engagement team to develop the annual wellness and wellbeing calendar

Requirements

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ health & welfare benefits administration experience
  • Working knowledge and understanding of HIPAA, QMCSO/NMS, ERISA, Section 125(a), COBRA, Cal-COBRA, and CHIPRA
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits programs
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office, including intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (must be proficient in creating and working with pivot tables and using formulas such as v-lookup)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required
  • Must have a detail-oriented, go-getter, forward thinking, self-starter attitude with a high inclination for solving inefficiencies.
  • Must remain positive, professional, determined, calm and focused when faced with challenging situations
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively manage a high volume of inquiries and e-mails
  • Must be able to effectively adapt to changing and new priorities
  • Must be self-driven, motivated to help, and able to perform with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
Physical Requirements
General office environment requiring ability to:
  • stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
  • lift up to 15 lbs.

Level of language needed to successfully accomplish the essential duties
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Level of reasoning skills needed to successfully accomplish the essential duties
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $58,300 – $87,500 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
